We have created a student club on campus managed by Chaminade students with Brother Payne as the faculty adviser. Our goals include promoting environmental responsibility by reducing waste & water use, increasing recycling & energy efficiency, and developing renewable energy solutions. These projects will be an investment in the future of Chaminade and ultimately save the campus money.
Initially, we hope to raise awareness within college students about the importance of sustainability and leverage their understanding of the issue to make sure everyone in the community has heard of the Hawaii Clean Energy Initiative, Hawaii Energy (HCEI), Blue Planet Foundation, Kanu Hawaii, etc. and is doing their part to conserve energy and recycle. We are coordinating our efforts with other college campuses including University of Hawaii, Hawaii Pacific University, and Brigham Young University - Hawaii. We are focusing on educating young students about the goals of HCEI and island sustainability as the students will become our next community leaders and they will be the beneficiaries of the hard work by 2030.
